home in las vegas. ♪ nobody loves me but my mother ♪ >> bb king believes anyone could play the blues as long as they have problems. he performed with the guitar. blues called it affectionately lucille. king was 89 years old. we've been monitoring all the social media sites this morning and a lot of people have been posting tributes. we'll have that for you coming up at 6:30. live for now in the digital operations center monique braxton. 5:32. we're learning more about the investigation into what led up to the tragedy. here's what's knew from overnight. the last two rail cars are removed from the crash site. they're being trucked away. they'll take the rail cars down to 85. we're about to launch sky force 10. we'll give you the best view of what's going on. the other five cars are being analyzed right now.

"nbc 10's" matt delucia has covered the story from the beginning. he's live once again on scene in port richmond. what can you tell us? >> reporter: tracy 56 hours after the derailment and the work continues. as you get all of those damaged cars away from the scene, and now the !rrt to repair those tracks. just behind me here i'm going to step out of the way so you can see beyond the police car, you see all the spot lights in the background where the amtrak workers are still trying to get all of those tracks back up and running. we've seen these past two days several new rales brought in to replace those damaged in the derailment and crash. yesterday ntsb investigators took a look at the train event recorder. the moments leading up to the crash were recorded. the train's speed was rapidly increasing for a minute before the derailment and hit 100 miles per hour. 16 seconds before it went off the tracks. the rail cars have been taken, as we mentioned, to a secure

facility in delaware for further examination. the engineer, meanwhile, brandon bastian has agreed to be interviewed in the next couple of days. they say he has no recollection of the crash but their own investigation continues. >> the police department it's an active ongoing criminal investigation into this matter. we'll continue to work together with amtrak and the district attorney's office here in philadelphia. >> reporter: the ntsb says they have also started talking with passengers on board that train. as we take another live look it has been released back to amtrak. investigators say they will be back to do a sight distance test. we're going to stay out here on the scene. for now live in port richmond matt delucia "nbc 10 news."

sky force 10 over the site of the crash as crews were hauling in new sections of track working to restore service. the head of amtrak says the service could be restored between philadelphia and new york as early as monday. trains are running on a modified schedule from philadelphia to d.c. senator casey plans to visit victims at temple. six are in critical condition with more surgeries planned. all are expected to recover. we've learned in the last 24 hours a total of 8 people died in the derailment. you see 7 of them here. the eighth was an italian national visiting the states on business. funeral service will be held in new york today for one of the victims. we have more information about each of the victims on nbc10.com or you can go to our "nbc 10 news" app plus you'll see video and pictures from the scene.

christine reugesters could be convicted for life. she took a 5-year-old from a school in cobbs creek and sexually assaulted her at a nearby home. someone found the child at a playground in upper darby. a bethlehem girl's basketball coach is expected to turn himself in facing allegations that he sexually assaulted a student. he's facing several charges including statutory sexual assault in an incident that involved a 15-year-old girl. he coached basketball and he met her when 1450e6s a student.ew -- he was a coach. she was a student. 5:36. new from overnight, crews put out a house fire in gloucester county. they arrived around 1:00 this morning reporting heavy flames. medics treated a person at the

scene for smoke inhalation. so far, no word on what caused that fire. >> the national spotlight will shine on camden next week with a visit from president obama. on monday the president plans to talk to kids in the neighborhood and the camden county police department about the community coming together. camden is a promise zone which uses federal grant money to create jobs and reduce crime. counting down to primary election day as philadelphia gets ready to select a new mayor. we have new information about what voters think of the current man doing the job. and for the second week in a row, thousands of people will converge on the schuylkill river, this time for the world's largest high school rowing championship. still ahead, what you need to know about this year's stotesbury cup regatta. you'll have to dress lightly for the regatta. this morning, a cool start and there are already some changes overhead. right now 55 degrees at 5:37.

that's at lunchtime. then we'll be watching areas north and west for showers and thunderstorms. 5:00 a chance of some showers and threat of showers will continue into the evening hours. so the weekend is going to turn warm and highs in the 80s with scattered showers and thunderstorms a possibility for both saturday and sunday. seven day when i'm back in ten. well it might be a good morning just to ditch the car. national bike to workday and the bicycle coalition of philadelphia will have several energizer stations set up in the city during the morning and afternoon commute. what is an energize ger stop you say? well, they give you coffee snacks. >> do that here. >> maybe even a high five during your ride. atc versus ptc. about quarter of 6 this friday morning. in the wake of the deadly derailment we've been hearing a lot about positive train control, ptc. it's the newest railway design to stop a speeding train. >> the technology wasn't being used on that section of track. "nbc 10" has learned it was in the process of getting approval. the "nbc 10" investigators are working to get more clarification on that progress. however, there's another system automatic train control, atc. that's been around for decades. it's already been around for decades. it signals the engineer if the train is going too fast and eventually brings the train to a stop. the "nbc 10" investigators found it isn't on the northbound track where the train derailed. it is on the southbound track. the reason it was not installed on the northbound track is it didn't think trains would build up enough speed between 30th

street station and the frankford curve. the ntsb plans to find out if there are other gaps along the rail line. atc is part of septa's entire regional rail system. now they say installing ptc is its highest priority. right now it's spending $300 million to get that job done. the requirement to install this on systems is 2008 and the deadline is the end of this year. septa lines cover hundreds of miles across pennsylvania new jersey delaware. a lack of federal funding making amtrak unsafe is the charge from democrats. here's the response from republican house speaker john boehner. >> are you really going to ask such a stupid question? listen you know they started this yesterday. it's all about funding. well obviously it's not about funding. some of it the train was going twice the speed limit. >> yesterday house committee

voted to cut amtrak's budget to just over $1 billion. that's 250 million less than the last budget. boehner said the railroad is getting enough money. the railroad is a work in progress. the race for philadelphia mayor and the primary election is just four days away now. >> so we asked people what they think of the current mayor's performance and we got answers from our polling philly report. survey of 600 democrats found 60% approve, 35% disapprove and 5 percent 49ers undecided. geographically a higher rating in center city and lower elsewhere. more people thought philadelphia was going in the wrong direction. you can watch that story right now using the nnk 10 app"nbc 10" app or on

three minutes before 6:00. more than 200 people were herd in the train derailment. we toured the hospital to see how they handled the patients. >> to some people it seemed like chaos but it was very orchestrated and organized. >> dr. kaplan was head of the einstein hospital. they met patients at the door assessed them sent them to specific parts of the e.r. depending on the severity of their injuries. in this one unit they can perform everything from treatment from cuts and bruises to surgery. >> we have the ability to handle chest injuries orthopaedic injuries abdominal injuries neck immobilization and then obviously monitors are in here. they get assessed here for the more acute patients. once we stabilize them then we can determine what the next step
